We are a group of St. James Town residents who are working to refashion our neighbourhood into a community which reflects the energy, diversity, and commitment of its residents. Over many years we have worked to improve traffic safety, installed state of the artschool play fields, saved community swimming pools, created community space, revitalized playgrounds and built parkettes.

Basic facilities: park space, recreation, retail, garbage management, social and medical services either do not exist or are inadequate for today’s St. James Town population.

We are bringing together planners, architects, land owners, residents and financial resources to support and contribute to our efforts in improving the health of our community by creatively addressing these issues.

During the summer of 2011, numerous community events were held to receive ideas and comments from neighbours. With the assistance of planners at the City of Toronto, these ideas have been mapped as the first step in Greening St. James Town. In the spring of 2012 we held a community charette for input to help develop solutions to each of these areas.

Our Banner Project is one response to a recommendation from the charette to improve access to St. James Town, make its edges more attractive and create a welcoming pathway into our community.
